Description

Lux Guyer (1894–1955) was the first independent female architect in Switzerland—and one of the first in Europe. The Obere Schiedhalde residence in Küsnacht, built in 1929 as a variant of the SAFFA prefabricated house, is one of her key works. Between 2012 and 2014, Christ & Gantenbein and Sven Richter carefully renovated it. Photographs of the exterior and interior spaces, materials and furniture, as well as texts and plans tell the story of this house. A lead essay by Anna Puigjaner explains the architecture as well as the book conceived by Ludovic Balland and Annina Schepping. Lux Guyer – Obere Schiedhalde is the revival of a house, a tribute to Lux Guyer and evidence of the timelessness of an exemplary and unique form of living.
